Jen had Tivo'd it so I watched it this afternoon. I think the main problem is they keep saying "my kids", "my life" instead of "our kids", "our life" - they've "invested" in the kids to the point where they have suffered as a couple. She says "Suddenly we're two people" I wanted to say, "GIRL! It's not "suddenly" - you've made it happen over the years - BOTH of you!"

Having said that, I think she has emasculated Jon by her behavior. She is BEYOND bossy! And THIS from someone who considers herself a bit bossy. I feel for the guy.

What a cryin shame they are getting so much publicity at their worst!
I have felt for a long time that they are far to negative, esp. Kate. I don't care how much it is played of as joking, you can't sustain a relationship by making negative comments or being sarcastic! It just doesn't work that way.
I do think they should reconsider going ahead with the show. Even if this is their "career" or just Kate's career, if it's tearing down everything they started doing it for in the first place,I think it's time to reevaluate priorities, difficult as it may be.
I really love them and hope they straighten up soon :)

You know my very LOUD opinion, because you already read it at my blog. LOL. I do agree that Jon never wanted to leave his job. I think he was happy being a semi-normal family and working 9-5. He has gone along with the fame, but I think he is terribly unhappy.

I agree that it was depressing and I think you did a good job of summing up what they should do. I think Kate is bossy some of the time not because she wants to be but because she has to- Jon can be kinda immature sometimes. I really, really feel sorry for their family.

I have never watched the show until about a week ago, when I was on the eliptical and it was on the monitor (a rerun). So I've seen maybe 3 total, but was interested in the premier. Where does Kate come off saying the paparazzi is exploiting her children? Hello! She and Jon have exploited them since they were in the womb! It is NOT NORMAL to have your life played out in front of America. Wasn't there a Jim Carrey movie about that??????

I don't even know where to start! All I can say is that they are both at fault! I agree with you about them needing to get over themselves! They were both like, "I am here for my kids." But Jon was off on vacation while the planning for the birthday was going on, and Kate seems to be gone an awful lot.
At first I thought Kate was just so mean to Jon. And, there ARE moments she is. However, tv edits what they want you to see. I am sure they put in all those moments for great ratings. I don't feel like we have gotten a true picture.
All I can say is that I agree with you, they seem like they have both checked out. I just hope for the kids sake that they do work it out! I ache for those kids!

That was so so sad. It was a lot like watching a train wreak but I couldn't stop. Their marriage is falling apart and I don't feel like they are doing anything to stop it. I don't know I really really really hope they stay together but I don't think it looked too hopeful last night.

Oh, and Kate seemed really different to me last night. I know she was in survival mode. But she just seemed really different in the way she dressed and acted.

I often jump on the "Kate is crazy" bandwagon but she has made some very good points recently. Number one, you can't say she "drove him to cheat". As she said, everyone is responsible for their own choices and I think it's unfair to ever blame someone's infidelity on the other spouse. It's a choice.

Number two, they BOTH said that this TV show is their job. It's a business. It's what's providing for their family, what will send their 8 kids to college at the same time, what will get them through sports and dances and other activities. I do believe they should take a break to get on track and shouldn't play this out in the open. But to ask them to walk away from the show is irresponsible. You don't just walk away from your job, your income, without a back up plan. Plus they're under contract.

I'm not saying there's not a lot of things that could be done to make it better, but it's not as cut-and-dry as "leave the show".

It sounds crazy, but it literally breaks my heart because I just thought they were so cute together, even when she was a little nutso.

I hated this show when I first watched it to, now I do love it and I watch it all the time. I watched the premiere and it does make me very sad. This is what I think....your marriage isn't all about your kids. I know there are a ton of people that would disagree with me on this, but if you make your marriage all about your kids, you're not doing your spouse, yourself, and especially your kids any favors. Yes, I agree your kids need to be loved, taken care of, paid attention to, but the best thing you can do for them is to keep your marriage alive. So they need to focus on their marriage, not their kids for a bit. I would agree that Jon needs a job, I do hope they work things out.

I don't even know where to start.

I am still unsure as to whether I can finish watching last nights episode or not. It was so heavy and depressing to me - I can't believe it affects me that much, but it does.

I think their problems come from Jon not wanting to do the show anymore because he can't live his normal life, and Kate becoming obsessed with doing the show, writing, and promoting, and then her thinking that bc Jon doesn't want to do the show, he is not willing to do what it takes to secure the kids' future.

P.S. What are child support payments on 8 kids?

I dvr'd it and haven't watched yet. BUT.. I feel bad for them. She does need to get over herself and Jon needs a job. They're trying to live a "normal" life but with camera's following them I'm sure it adds to the stress. I don't want them to give up the show, but I think they should take a break from the public to focus on their family. I cannot EVEN imagine Divorce with one, two or three kids.. but 8!!! Wow!

One thing that drove me crazy was in the beginning she was saying how she left Jon at home with the kids but he had help. And then the rest of the episode was her griping about having to plan the party ALONE and do everything ALONE. I'm pretty sure that same "help" that helps Jon was there off camera helping her. So sad and frustrating! And I'm sure none of their marriage woes are for publicity. :)

I agree completely. Jon (my Jon) and I were watching it last night, and it was super depressing. We were both feeling major awkwardness the entire show. I almost cried when Alexis asked her dad not to leave anymore. I do hope they stay together. They both seriously need to get over themselves. However, with Kate's track record, if I were Jon, I might try to check out too. She is nutzo sometimes!
