I'm thinking of making this a weekly feature. We'll see how it goes. Let's be honest here -- there is much we could cover on the subject of facebook etiquette. Don't even get me started on being political on facebook. And also? One word: farmville.

But what I want to discuss is when someone asks a question on facebook, and MULTIPLE people comment with THE EXACT same answer. I don't get it. It's like they just need others to know they also knew the answer.

EXAMPLE:

Emily White Does anyone know the location of The Really Cool Store?
Polly Esther It's located on the corner of 1st and 2nd Street
I.P. Freely On the corner of 1st and 2nd street
Joe Cool I've been there and I can also tell you that it's on the corner of 1st
and 2nd street.
Jane Doe I think it's on the corner of 1st and 2nd street. Haven't been there yet
but I'm dying to go!
Brittney Spears Yep! Everyone is right! It's on the corner of 1st and 2nd street!
Justin Beiber Look at the corner of 1st and 2nd street.
Michelle Obama On first street right by second street! LOVE that place!

What it really means:

Emily White Does anyone know the location of The Really Cool Store?
Polly Esther It's located on the corner of 1st and 2nd Street
I.P. Freely I may have hit "comment" the same time as Polly
Joe Cool I need everyone to know that I have been to The Really Cool Store
Jane Doe Invite me to go with you! I even know where The Really Cool Store is!
Brittney Spears Just wanted to let everyone know that I ALSO know where it's at.
Justin Beiber Please think I'm cool because I know the answer.
Michelle Obama Not only have I BEEN there, but I have been there enough to LOVE it so clearly I am the expert here.

Now if you are ADDING something new to the conversation that is totally acceptable.

Jessica Anderson It's behind The Neat Place. And they only accept cash, so bring some with you!

So, even if you DO know the answer, you don't have to comment just to prove that you do.

What are your facebook pet peeves?

I totally get what you are talking about, but oddly enough, never really picked up on that, so now it's totally going to bug me! As if I need another thing...

My pet peeve: People who update and share every detail of their life EXCEPT when they post something dramatic like: "something terrible happened today that changed my life forever blah blah" and then 50 comment and ask what happened and they never reply. Like, it wasn't such a private matter that you left it off facebook in the first place! Spill it.

I'm not even sure if I'm making sense, but yeah. Someone should write a FB etiquette book :)

I hate it when people "like" their own status! For real???

Over-"like"ers. You know...the ones who like every.single.thing. ANYONE says. Especially when someone posts something not-so-likeable, but it still gets "liked".

Oh my gosh Emily, the comment-repeaters are easily my BIGGEST pet peeve on Facebook! It literally* drives me BONKERS!!! I also cannot stand people that are always negative in every single post, and those that are intentionally vague just so that you ask them what they meant. It is like the Facebook version of fishing for a compliment or attention.

* I threw that "literally" in there just for you. :) That's also another pet peeve of mine.

My pet peeve is when people share highly inappropriate information.
I unfriended my aunt because every time a family member would get sick or die she would post it on facebook before everyone was notified... sometimes before the ambulance got there, or the corpse was cold.
Also, I unfriended a college friend because he shared the description his wife gave him of what her orgasms felt like.

NOT OK.

So many facebook pet peeves. Which is why I'm never on it. I especially hated when I'd start to tell a story about the kids or whatever (in real life) and would get cut off with an "oh yeah, I saw that on FB". Ok.

This post was awesome. Up there with the bird/car story for me :)

I think sometimes (especially if posting from a phone) people don't read the comments first. :)

My pet peeve (in addition to people fishing for compliments and people not replying to comments asking about their status): when people over-exaggerate.
I had the best time ever!!!!!!!!!!
WAAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was the best time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YEHAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough already.

I can't stand that! I get it if they all post within a minute of each other, other than that, you're just being an idiot.

Mine are too numerous to list here, I did a post about it a few months ago. The worst of these is the passive aggressive post-er. Drives me nuts!

I think some people were referring to my biggest pet peeve called "vague booking!" when you post something just to be asked about it...

Example: ugh! That was awful!
- really? Was it? What was awful, just say it!

OR

Getting excited!
- about what!? Just say it. Urgh!

One of my pet peeves is people who "like" AND comment that they like. If I am correct, "like" is there so you don't have to comment.
